the wanderer

Yesterday, we visited Rosebank Farms on John’s Island. If you have never been before, you have to make a trip. It’s a unique experience. Sitting outside the gates to the magnificent Kiawah Island and it’s equally impressive cousin, Seabrook Island, it is a refreshing bit of farm life for locals and tourists alike. They sell everything from fresh veggies and straight-from-the-sea local shrimp to jams, jellies and preserves. And don’t forget the eggs! They have plenty of chickens laying farm fresh eggs everyday (My mom would be happy – I had to make a daily stop back when I was caring for her and my ailing father when they only had 6 chickens. There were never any eggs left for us in the middle of winter). Everywhere you walked, there were chickens under foot, seemingly unaffected by the human presence all around. They certainly looked more comfortable than the tentative tourists who were trying to pick up a bundle of flowers to take back to their villa for the week. Silly Chickens. I can’t wait to get some of my own.
