First days

We have waited for this day all year. All throughout the long, dark months – through our routines and our homework and errands and practices and lessons and our out of town work trips with bad coffee and truck stop rest rooms  – we dream of lingering on sandy beaches with sunshine at our backs so we can play aimlessly all day…simply living in the moments in front of us.

And finally it is here. The first days of relaxing and lingering. The first days of barbecuing and bonfires. The first days we go to bed too late and sleep in even later. The lazy and lingering lovely days of summer are here.

We have waited. We have put our time in. We have done the work to get here. And even though life still must go on and errands must still be run and work must still be done, this is the time to sit and be present, if only for a moment. This is the time to watch the time unravel before our very eyes. This is our time to relive both the grandness and the simplicity of life in the first days of summer.
